Power training or plyometric training as it is known is a type of training system that is designed to produce fast,   powerful movements and improve the function of the nervous system. It involves practising explosive movements to toughen up tissues and train cells to simulate a specific pattern of muscle contraction. This allows the muscle to generate as strong a contraction as possible in the shortest amount of time which is ideal as the golf swing is an explosive movement that only lasts for a few seconds.

·         Flexibility training might be one of the most important components of the successful golf swing because it increases the movement distance for force application. When a muscle is pre stretched, it creates elastic recoil that applies additional force for a more powerful contraction. This procedure is known as preloading the muscle. After undergoing flexibility testing each individual will receive a comprehensive stretching program. Flexibility training is also an important prehabilitation exercise that will ensure areas are warmed and ready for the resulting force.

·         Stamina is important as golf is an endurance sport and fatigue has a big effect on the quality of the golf swing. Once fatigue sets in and the golf swing deteriorates poor mechanics can lead to overuse injuries. It is important to train the cardio vascular system to keep the body in prime physical condition and the mind sharp.

·         Proprioception is the sensory mechanism that sends messages through the central nervous system (CNS) that creates a reaction for the intended purpose. The sensory receptors in the muscles, joints and connective tissue create an unconscious reaction which can be trained. Therefore it is an essential tool to improve balance and coordination.

Remote training

·         Send your swing videos in for analysis to determine biomechanical issues, I will assess the video and design an individualised training program to improve these areas.

·         Fill out a brief questionnaire to determine your strenghts and weaknesses and to enable me to write a specific, individualised training program to address your specific needs.

·         Receive a monthly training program with videos of exercises that you can do yourself, if you have any questions at all during the monthly program I will be available to answer these.

·         Upload your work out videos to stay on track with your training: To make sure your training is progressing you can upload your training sessions so I can make sure the exercises and programs are being performed correctly. This is similar to having a virtual personal trainer!

Group Classes

·         Flexibility classes focus on exercises that increase the range of motion around the joints and prepare the body for the force generated by the golf swing and the prevention of overuse injuries. Small classes of 8-10 people are run to ensure everyone receives equal attention and to make sure the exercises are performed correctly.

·         Beginners classes focus on basic exercises to prepare the body for golf and to help ingrain the movement pattern of the golf swing. These classes strengthen and condition the body to make sure it is in top working order before the player begins their life long journey of play golf. Conditioning the body from the very begining will increase the player's longevity in the game and help them avoid the niggling injuries that can prevent some seasoned golfers playing the game.

·         Intermediate classes include some more complex exercises as these players have been participating in the sport for a larger amount of time they have an understanding of the game and their golf swing. These exercises are designed to improve the areas of their game they believe are weak such as distance of the tee or playing longer clubs into the green or not having enough power to get the ball out of the sand. Exercises that strengthen the golfer and give them more dynamic power are included in these classes.

·         Advanced: the advanced player knows exactly what they want to achieve with their body. They are at a level in the game where they know what they are doing technically and know that it is not their technical game that they need to improve in order to get their game to the next level. The advanced programs consist of exercises that push the golfers body and help them improve and adapt to the level they want to be at. Training priciples such as strength, plyometric, proprioception, and endurance are covered in these classes.

·
Fitness Seminars are designed to introduce golfers to the various training principles of golf conditioning and to educate all players on the importance of incorporating a specialised golf conditioning program into their training regimen. Seminars can be held for all levels of golfers but are especially valuable for the amateur or elite amateur.
